ALMOST A WEEK OF ANALYZING REBECCA MAY JOHNSONS POEM «TO PURGE THE DESIRE TO WRITE LIKE A MAN» AND COUNTLESS DRAFTS OF HAND DRAWN SYMBOLS USING NOTHING BUT A CALLIGRAPHY PEN AND BLACK INK RESULTED IN THIS SYMBOL SET AND ITS LIGATURES. IN THE COURSE OF THIS BOOKLET THE SYMBOL SET AND POEM FIGHT OVER SPACE AND EVENTUALLY COME TO AN AGREEMENT OF EXISTING IN SYMBIOSIS.

A TRULY EVIL TYPEFACE. LOOSELY BASED ON THE FONT FROM JOHN COLTRANES 1962 RECORD «STANDARD COLTRANE» THIS TYPEFACE COMBINES THE SIMILARITIES SHARED BY JAZZ MUSICIANS FROM THE 50S AND HEAVY METAL BANDS OF MORE RECENT DECADES. BESIDE BEING CUTTING EDGE AND EXPERIMENTAL WITHIN THEIR MUSICAL WORK, MEMBERS OF BOTH THESE CIRCLES SHARED A LOVE FOR HEROIN, MANY OF THEM LIVED AND DIED BY THE NEEDLE. THE TYPEFACE INCLUDES THREE CUTS: REGULAR, EVIL AND SATANIC WHICH GRADUALLY TRANSFORM THE FONT TO ITS MOST EVIL FORM. REGULAR IS A TIGHT GEOMETRICAL CUT, MONOSPACED AND CONSTRUCTED FOLLOWING A TECHNICAL FORMULA WHICH SYMBOLIZES THE PRECISION AND HIGHLY TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF BOTH THE JAZZ AND HEAVY METAL GENRE. IN THE EVIL CUT, THE SHARP SERIFS REFERENCE THE SYRINGE, THE USERS FAVORITE TOOL. TO ROUND UP THE STORY, THE SATANIC CUT SHIFTS FROM THE PRECISE CONSTRUCTED NATURE INTO ORGANIC MADNESS, WHERE IT FINDS ITS FINAL FORM IN LUNACY FOREVER.

pak zscxzhdk 01 POSTER PROPOSAL FOR ZSC PFINGSTREGATTA 2022. A COOPERATION BETWEEN ZURICH UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS AND ZUERCHER SEGELCLUB. COLORS AND SHAPES ARE BASED ON MOVEMENTS OF WATER AND WIND, COMBINED WITH METHODOLOGICALLY PLACED TYPOGRAPHY TO POINT OUT THE STRATEGIC NATURE OF THE RACE.

IN COLLABORATION WITH CHIARA VERNIER THIS POSTER DEVELOPED OVER MANY DAYS OF EXPERIMENTATION AND LONG NIGHTS IN THE TYPOGRAPHIC DUNGEON AT SCHULE FUER GESTALTUNG IN ZURICH. UTILIZING ONLY LINOCUT AND LEAD SET PRINTING TECHNIQUES TO CREATE A POSTER FOR A FICTIONAL EVENT CELEBRATING THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE BELOVED TABLETOP GAME JENGA.
